Many ceiling fans come with light kits included so all you have to buy are the bulbs, and even if they don’t, most can be fitted with one.

There are many different ceiling fan light kits for you to choose from. The most popular are the bowl lights which can house a number of bulbs and provide a superior level of brightness. These can be flushed or directly attached to the bottom of the fan or semi-flushed, wherein it is hanging from a stem.

Pendant lights, chandelier-style lights and spotlights are also popular. Chandelier-style lights and spotlights are similar in the sense that they come in sets of three, four or even five lights with individual covers, but the latter are brighter because they point downward whereas the former are raised and are better at creating a good ambience.

One of the light kits you might want to consider for your ceiling fan are Tiffany ceiling lights, which have beautiful stained glass covers. These are included with Tiffany ceiling fans if you want the entire package but can be purchased separately if you’ve already bought a ceiling fan and want to enhance its aesthetic appeal.

Once you’ve chosen which one you like best, here are the basic steps on how to install your ceiling fan light kit:

1. Make sure the power supply is turned off, then using wire nuts, connect the wires of the light kit into the housing.

2. Mount the light assembly using the screws provided.

3. Install the glass light cover or light shade. Remember to tighten the bolts well enough so the covers won’t fall and break, and so they won’t rattle, but not too tight or the glass might crack.

4. Install the light bulbs, making sure you are using those specified in the light kit or ceiling fan manual.

5. Turn the power supply back on and test the fan to make sure the lights are working properly.
